Matthew 28:18-20 is known as the Great Commission. In this passage, Jesus tells us, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
This wasn't the Great Suggestion but a commission for all of us. Jesus tells all of us to go and make disciples of all nations. We can physically go or we can be a partner of those who go.
In Romans, Chapter 10, Paul tells us about the importance of both missionaries and those who send them, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'"
There are two important aspects here. It is essential to have those who bring the good news – missionaries, but we also need those who serve as senders – those who remain at home but are actively involved as the missionaries' partners.
How can we partner with our missionaries? There are numerous ways to stand with our missionaries. The most important way is to support them in prayer. We can support them by meeting their financial needs, and also by sending encouragement through e-mails, letters, and care packages, just to name a few.
Please read more and learn about our missionaries and then pray about who God would have you partner with. Our missionaries need you! You can make the difference between their success on the field, and their premature return home because of discouragement and defeat.
